John Livingston, born in 1951 in Victoria, was a non-Native, adopted Kwakwaka'wakw artist. He was affiliated with the Hunt family since the 1970s when he was taught the art of carving by Henry Hunt and Tony Hunt Sr. John worked on many commissions with Robert Davidson, Art Thompson, Susan Point, Tim Paul, Tony Hunt, Calvin Hunt, Tom Hunt, and many others. Livingston was highly acclaimed for his expertise and talent and versatility as a carver. His work is found in numerous public and private collections throughout North America and Europe.

Livingston was instrumental in the coordination of the University of Victoria's ceremonial Chancellor's chair, stool and lectern.
