One of six similar beaded conical hats in donation
overall: 18.00 cm x 34.00 cm x 0.00 cm
Hats of this type are made by Matu Melanau, and commonly worn by men. Coloured threads, beads, and metallic threads are plaited or sewn into the designs. The version of the Terindak hat is smaller than some. This type is also identified as Papar Dusun and Sambas (Dutch Borneo). Also see u992.23.42 for information on dyes and basketry preparation and production. This hat corresponds with the group of six assigned temporary number 45 by Noga Yarmar in her research.

This item has three identical sarawak coats of arms as the main beadwork motif. The colours of the plaited geometric patterns are pinks and purples. The band around the bottom is painted. blue
Gift of Colin and Gloria Mary Smith (nee Boroughs)
