He has black hair and is clothed in a brown coat and a black and white, plaid, collared shirt. The patterns in the background are primarily curvilinear and ambiguous in appearance. The colours used in the composition include different browns, greys, blues, black, white, green, oranges, pinks, and reds. The brushwork is thick, bold, and gestural. The brushwork on the face of the figure in particular is significantly blended and layered. The layering of the paint in some areas of the painting creates a bumpy surface texture.
